Specialist education
Unique services for unique young people
Priory Education Services is the UK's leading specialist provider of education and care for children and young people aged four to 35 with Asperger's Syndrome (AS), autistic spectrum disorders (ASD), behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD) and specific learning difficulties associated with dyslexia. For more information about Priory's services for adults with Autistic Spectrum Disorders click here.
Our aim is to help our students and residents make positive life choices and attain greater independence as they reach adulthood.
Priory Education Services is unique because our integrated care pathways offer pupils and their families a wide variety of choices at key life stages, allowing young people to seamlessly progress through joined-up services that are always tailored to meet specific individual needs.
We provide flexible, individually tailored programmes with services including options for day, extended day, respite care and weekly boarding as well as 52 week care in our registered children's homes (see individual schools for details).
Most of our students have a Statement of Special Educational Needs. Many have experienced difficulties within mainstream educational settings, been excluded from school or had problems at home because of their complex and challenging needs and behaviours.
We offer the highest level of integrated education, care and therapy programmes in safe, structured and positive environments with experienced, empathetic staff. This framework makes our students feel more secure, develops their self-confidence, self-reliance and self-esteem and enables them to succeed on all levels. Our young people can study for a wide range of academic and vocational qualifications, including GCSE, GNVQ, BYEC, NVQ, ASDAN, AS and A levels. We have a good record of successful exam results and some students do continue to university and further education.
All of the Priory schools are DCSF (formerly DfES) registered and inspected by Ofsted. Our further education colleges are members of the National Association of Specialist Colleges (NATSPEC). We work closely with parents and referring agencies from all sectors and are responsive to their needs. Where appropriate, we liaise with mainstream schools to develop shared-education packages.
The majority of our students and residents are publicly-funded through Local Authorities, Social Services or the Learning and Skills Council.
Child and adolescent mental health services
